"I have been doing 1:1 yoga sessions with Rowena for months and she has completed changed my association with yoga -- I now love it and look forward to our practice as a key part of my week. Rowena is incredibly knowledgable and patient. I started working with her due to some health issues, and she is so supportive and always willing to adjust or slow down to accommodate me."

Self-Realization Through 1:1 Study

Private yoga sessions in-studio or online can expedite your path to self-realization:

  • Are you beginning yoga for the first time, find public classes unable to meet your needs, and would like personalized feedback to learn the foundations of the practice?

  • Would you like to see if yoga can help manage chronic pain, stress, illness, knee or hip replacement, arthritis, surgery or injury recovery as a compliment to western and eastern healthcare practices?

  • Ready to master a specific asana such as chaturanga (halfway down pushup), salamba sirsasana (headstand), or adho mukha vrksasana (handstand)?

  • Planning the 3 months ahead or currently going through egg retrieval for egg freezing or embryo freezing, trying to conceive, or other fertility treatments and want to minimize stress and foster fertility?

  • Are you in the first trimester of pregnancy and find public prenatal classes too uncomfortable/soon to participate in?

  • Would you like to include a yoga teacher as a part of your care team during the prenatal, postnatal, or postpartum journey?

  • Need help starting a home vinyasa, hatha, yin, or restorative asana (physical posture); pranayama (breath control), or dhyana (meditation) practice?

  • Seeking ways to embrace yoga philosophy as a way of life off the mat at work or at home?

Rowena personalizes practice to each student's interests, needs, and phase of life including: physical practice (vinyasa, hatha, restorative, yin, power, alignment), dhyana (meditation practice), pranayama (breath practice), philosophy study, and mentorship for corporate leaders or yoga teachers. She brings yoga back to its forgotten, ancient roots as a science and philosophy. She teaches students to study yoga and their practice through the lens of art and science, without judgement -- pure observation. She offers theory and knowledge to unveil new learning and growth.

What's included in yoga asana sessions?

Rowena offers 60-min studio and 30-min virtual yoga asana lessons tailored to your focus areas and needs 1:1 or in groups of two or more. She teaches to all bodies, abilities, and levels including: experienced, beginner, and accessible yoga; yoga for seniors, chair yoga, office yoga, yoga for corporate wellness, yoga for corporate leadership, preconception / fertility, IVF, prenatal, postpartum, pregnancy loss, postnatal with babies pre-crawling, chronic pain and arthritis management, pelvic floor dysfunction, injury management, physical rehabilitation, surgical recovery, breathwork, breathing practice, meditation instruction and practice. With private group sessions, celebrate birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, bachelor/bachelorettes, reunions, holidays with loved ones. Yoga asana, or physica postures practice, is the third limb of yoga and preparation for dhyana (meditation practice) when the body is unable to sit still and the mind is noisy. By reducing the body's ailments and rebalancing its energy centers, the mind can become more free from distractions on the path of knowledge and realization.

What's included in yoga pranayama sessions?

Rowena offers 30-min 1:1 and 60-min 1:2 studio pranayama lessons tailored to your needs. In these private sessions, Rowena will teach you the practices that support your life's work and responsibilities off the mat, week-for-week. Prana is more than oxygen and breath, it is the flow of energy through the body. When our pranic flow becomes restricted or unbalanced, due to fulfilling our householder duties off the mat, it becomes difficult for us to practice higher levels of yoga, such as meditation. It can also make it difficult to practice preparatory levels of yoga, such as yoga asana, or even manage stressful events off the mat. Under stress, restricted breath reduces oxygen available to our cells, causing pain and dysfunction. Rebalancing our energetic body, strengthening and mobilizing the diaphragm, and leveraging full oxygen capacity allows us to tap into homeostasis and the parasympathetic nervous system on the path to equanimity, wellness, and ultimately dhyana (meditation) and samadhi (enlightenment). In yoga, there are several pranayama (breath control) practices that can be utilized to balance the mind-body system. For students with physical restrictions to pranic flow (evaluated at the first session), complementary asanas (postures), stretches, or myofascial release with therapy balls may be integrated into pranayama lessons.

What's included in yoga dhyana sessions?

Rowena offers 30-min 1:1 and 60-min 1:2 studio dhyana lessons. Learning how to sit still and "just meditate" for 2, 5, 10, or 20 minutes can be challenging. Here, Rowena will teach you traditional and modern paths to meditation so that you can practice them at home and develop a your unique meditation practice. Lessons include coaching on when, where, and how to prepare practice. What is meditation? How do we know when we are meditating? When will my foot stop falling asleep? Working directly with a teacher can help you answer these questions on the path of yoga as a way of life. A variety of props and chairs are provided to identify the most accessible and comfortable "seat" for each student of the practice.

What's included in yoga mentorship and applied yoga sessions?

Mentees will have weekly or bi-weekly 30-min 1:1s with Rowena via phone or video call to learn, discuss, apply, and reflect upon practice of applied yoga philosophy and science. Mentorship is for teachers or students who would like to develop equanimity and nourishment in their lives or relationships through the lens of yoga philosophy with hands-on, action-based practice (kriya yoga). Mentorship is also for individuals seeking personalized guidance on how to tailor their lifestyle through the lens of yoga (and its sister science, ayurveda) to nurture their health and wellness needs through monthly cycles or phases of life.
